Default Skateboard Gimmicks that Died Out

Hound of the Basketball's "Rails" thread got me thinking about some of the skateboard "fads" and gimmicks that have died out over the years. I expect a lot of the younger forummers will have never even heard of some of these...

Coper on the truck. Lapper over the kingpin. Rails too!

    Rails - Powell Rib Bones.

Schmitt Stix - the "other" rails. The company name came from Paul Schmitt - they originally just made rails, before the classic Lucero graphic, Sawblade longboard etc.

Powell Jaw Bone - popularised by Tony Hawk, cos like, we were all doing big nose grab BS airs on vert in those days.

Nosebone - to protect your nose. I was surprised to see Powell are still selling these, tailbones etc.

Wheel-wells - to stop wheel bite - does anyone even use that term any more?

Rip Grip - BEAR assures me this is still available from Shiner. Get in there grabbers!

Z-Roller trucks. Yes - they don't grind - they roll!

Some classics I can't find pics of include:

Those TOOB double barelled wheels they always used to sell in the back pages of Transworld.

The fix-on handlebars - also in the back pages of Transworld.

The single bearing wheels from the early 90s. Wes M told me a good story about buying some, hating them cos they popped out every 2 minutes and managing to swap with some sucker at Lloyds, cos they were the cool new thing!

"Wing boards"??? Not sure of the name - but they were skateboards designed to be sat on with "wings" on the side to hold onto.

Rubber grip tape! Mmmm - soft...

Stick it on your board for extra grip - from the era when Melons were still mellanchollies and grabs were all the rage.

Rip grip is was like softer grip tape you stuck under your board for grabs... Sex bolts! If I asked for sex bolts now I would be asked to leave the skate shop.

Or bridge bolts, not the same as sex bolts but most people had them for a while. Guess slicks can come in to this too?

Patterns in your griptape you could put stickers in like the Death box tea pots, tho see that is sort of making a come back.

I used to love rip grip, covered my brick sized gameboy in it. (it was all the rage then I tell ya) People stopped putting it on their board as revolutionary things like "nose slides" were invented.
