Don't send it to Currys or any other similar chain store, unless you absolutely have to. Bring it to a local independent & reputable computer repair place instead, sounds more like an electrical fault with the power brick for the laptop itself, rather than the inner workings of the computer. Try buying a replacement from ebay, might work.

Try it with another charger first i reckon. doesn't need to be a hp one either, most companies use lite-on and are pretty much the same.

Sad but true. My wife took hers to Currys or Dixons or something and they basically forgot about it. She came back 3 months later and the thing hadn't moved from behind the desk. By tghat point the guarantee had run out.

I've also heard horror stories of the "tech support" being unable to fix the computer so they just format all the drives to make it factory new again...

That is standard practice in most places, about as tech support as jesus.

I think my sister got it worst when they handed her back a laptop without a harddrive in it!

She is prone to the worst luck though ; )

I have been having a external hardrive problem since i reformatted my computer. Its when i am browsing my ex hard drive and the folder just closes.I thought it was my external hard drive as it was almost full but i just went out and bought a new one and i still have the problem. When i try to import footage to premiere it closes both the program and the hard drive folder..really confused with this one..any help would be grateful

does the computer make the USB device removal noise at that point? (bing bong).. and do you have to disconnect/reconnect the drive to make it work again?

if all the above are true. try to get newer/different usb drivers for your computer as it seems like the usb bus is getting overloaded by the high amount of data transfer.

sounds to me like ur ebs port is down, try do the initial protocool data back up whilst linking the main frame to the standard dtf setting (.res8573data.txt file) then you will need to encrypt the data back to the firmware file error system to enable a DOS data transfer recovery, lemme no if this works.
