    Default Injury Advice Thread

need some advice from you guys urgently, so maybe this can just be a thread for all injury questions etc?

i've fucked my shoulder up today, charged it into the ground, and cant lift my arm up by my side or hold anything heavy

basically i'm going to barca in 9 days and need to get it better fast, so does anyone know the best thing for it? rest / don't move it at all, or try and stretch it and move my arm further up? thanks
    Trust me I'm a stomach

First thing get some heat on it Hot water bottle or heat lamp and take some anti inflamatories, if your planning on going away i'd get it looked at incase you've torn any tendons i did this and left it and it's never been right since.

If I were you, I'd go see my GP tomorrow. You don't want to ruin that week in Spain!
Never had any problems with my shoulders, can't help you, sorry. Good luck!

GET iT CHECKED OUT STRAIGHT AWAY.
IF YOU CAN'T LIFT IT UP YOU MAY HAVE DAMAGED YOUR LIGAMENTS OR TENDONS OR POSSIBLY DAMAGED YOUR COLLARBONE.
DONT STRETCH ANYTHING,GET IT SUPPORTED IN A SLING IF YOU CAN. GET IT CHECKED OUT BY A DOCTOR IS MY ADVICE.

If the same or worse in morning, get to AE as early as possible before the waiting room fills up. Not being able to raise arm or hold weights isn't a good sign mate.

EDIT: yep as bear says go to AE now if you can. If swollen, you wont see a broken collar bone or a separated AC joint like the one I've just had fixed.

Don't fuck about with shoulders, if you've injured it you're much more likely to injure it seriously if you slam again.

thanks guys. think i made it sound slightly worse than it is. i can lift it forwards and backwards, just not up sideways if you get me. it's not swollen either. got some advice from dr tech last night but you guys are saying the opposite so yeah maybe i'll go check it out.

edit - ok this morning i can move it around fine, just some movements hurt a bit more than others.

Shoulders are fucking mega uncomfortable in comparison to most of the body, there's nothing wrong with getting checked out.

Dr Tech will more than likely just want to dissect you and shit, and probably in a really perverse way too.

@Hastings, what did getting your separated AC fixed actually entail?

I did mine last year, it only bothers me from time to time but looks weird, sticking up about 2cm from my shoulder.

Did mine a year before and just got sent home with pain killers. It had about about a 2 inch range on it, looked gross and was rubbing against another bone ....but could of lived with it, only bothered me now and then really, like when carrying loads at work ect, but not great.

Saw my GP they where hmmm, not what we normally fix, but referred to hospital, same story their, but referred to a specialist who was sure we can fix that no problem.

Artificial ligament tying the two bones together, op was under an hour. Shoulder is 100% again, can't tell you how pleased I had it done ....though be prepared for quite a lot of down time, physio & a 3 inch scar.

    a) man up

    or

    b) rest

    or

    c) Arnica is actually very good for sprains and swellings, not just for brusing. Get mother nature on your side

I've left mine and named it "my wing". When I did it and after I came too (knocked me sen out) I thought it was dislocated so was trying to get people to help me pop it back in!!! that DID NOT help the cause but think after my injury I was back on my board 2 weeks later... So by the sounds of things you aint too bad just chill get some anti inflamatories and it will most likely be ligament which you can get proper physiotherapy for when you get back. and wank switch if thats the arm you use!!
