Default The UK's premier skateboard company?

It used to be easy right? Reading peoples feelings about Superdead. Blueprint and then Unabomber flying the flag. Now with people having mixed feelings about Blueprint being 100% British, like Flip before them. Unabomber seem to have fizzled in and out as the force it once was.

It is great that there is something for everyone now when it comes to the UK scene and companies, if you liked Blueprint or not you knew they were the company pushing UK skating to a level the rest of the world took notice of and made the rest of the UK up their game.

Just wondering what people think, out of all the UK companies who can/will step in to the void left and knock on the worlds door to show UK skating in the same light as Blueprint did?

Palace has gotten out there pretty quick and if they put out a feature length video I think it would go down as a cult classic.

I still hold Blueprint in high regard. I don't see them moving more into the US market as a bad thing, so long as they continue to support and highlight good skaters from the UK, like Tom Knox for example, why shouldn't they?

Blueprint have always done a great job of looking after their team and producing great videos, but that's not cheap to do and is really hard to sustain in a small market with small margins like the UK, remember that Faze7 went bust! If expanding into a bigger market in the US means they can continue to do what they do so well, I am stoked for them.

Having said that, I don't particularly feel any reason to support UK companies over US ones or European ones. If I am stoked on a company and they make good stuff, I will buy it. Nationalism doesn't come into it at all.

I like Superdead and Palace and Enjoi about equally, but I don't like Dwindle boards particularly so I don't buy them. I'm currently skating a 5boro board which is really nice and I have a Toy Machine board ready to set up because they are rad and make boards that I like to skate.

If I was to be patriotic about buying skateboards, I would be more likely to buy Creature, Zero, Anti Hero or Blueprint because they sponsor some of my favorite Scottish skaters.

At one point the only boards I could ride were Toy, Zero, Foundation and Icon (rollersnakes company) becaus they came from Watsons wood shop and they are the best (for me) ATF are the closest now they have gotten better so I now ride them. However I still like Blueprint, Death, Palace etc etc but could never ride their boards.

I'd like to ride a fabric board if they did them in 8.4

but I always hold DLX brands with such high regard

That said, I had an 8.4 enjoi board the other month and it was sick

...I heard Toy Machine boards in the UK are not actually Toy Machine wood?

Remember hearing somewhere that TKC own the rights to Toy artwork and can print the graphics onto whatever wood they choose to use (presumably the same wood as Fracture)

could be wrong but I've definitely heard that before

Anyway, in response to the original question, Palace are delivering the radness, having just won the Euro Brand of the Year thingy and bringing some original concepts to the table, and having a pretty hefty team, I think they will only get better and better

That's utter shite. TKC distribute Toy Machine boards from the US, they don't licence anything. Some Toy and Foundation boards are pressed in China, the cheaper "price point" team models. You can always tell the US ones because they have "Made in the USA" lazer etched on the top ply.

...hence why I said 'I could be wrong' but I'd heard it from a fairly reliable source... They must've got confused with that price point / US boards thing tho

Blueprint have to still be the biggest or at least top 2 or 3 right?

I bought pretty much nothing but blueprints for 8 years, with the occasional Death deck too for good measure. Death must sell a shit load as you seem to see them in most SOS - and they are good quality.

If palace released a full length PWBC type skate video, with parts from all their riders they would take over I reckon.

Purely on the basis of shapes and wood, I'd vote for ATF.

Ona related note, what has happenend to Heroin? Not heard anything about them for a while. I had a couple of their boards and they were sick.

Not feeling Palace or Superdead apart from their teams.

Blueprint aren't what they used to be.

    EDIT: All just my opinion.

In terms of sales, possibly. Enuff and Fracture possibly outsell all the other brands in units. You certainly see shit loads of them about.

I've seen loads of Heroin boards around recently, but i must say they seem to have gone a bit quiet. Perhaps Fos is busy with Altamont, or they are working on something big, hopefully the latter.
