Around 2010 I also read a thread over at bitcointalk that claimed Bitcoin was the result of a think tank, which given the complexity of the original code premise would make far more sense than a single person. I've worked with some pretty good developers, and I'm a developer myself, and the project is so far above what any of us are capable of that it simply doesn't compute that the author be a single person.

There's a whole lot more basis for that claim when you consider that the concept of decentralised currency is not a new one. Bartering trades with foodstuffs, services, rare(ish) items etc has been a trade staple even prior to finite currency (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commodity_money), but the introduction of fiat monies has often been considered to favour a certain demographic. A well intentioned think tank (or person financing a think tank) seems even less far-fetched when you look at the effect of investment on stock markets and hyper-capitalism, especially after the effects of the crunch.

That's my thoughts on it, anyway. I still weep at the thought of the btc I lost out of stupidity.

    edit:"
It was invented by Satoshi Nakamoto, a developer at Nintendo who mysteriously disappeared in the 1990s. The multiplayer mode in Goldeneye N64, on which he was lead developer, uses a primitive form of Bitcoin to keep track of high scores."

    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tsujigiri

Tsujigiri (辻斬り or 辻斬, literally crossroads killing) is a Japanese term for a practice when a samurai, after receiving a new katana or developing a new fighting style or weapon, tests its effectiveness by attacking a human opponent, usually a random defenseless passer-by, in many cases during nighttime.[1]
