    Default The Cycling Thread

There are a lot of cyclists on the forum and I know we have a Tour De France thread but I thought it would be cool to have a specific one.

Is anyone up for doing some Sportives this summer?

This one looks good - https://www.britishcycling.org.uk/ev...-Roads-Classic

Also if you're on Strava let us know how to find you in this thread.

    Hugo.

You don't need nice a nice bicycle, that's the beauty of cycling.

Good thread btw Hugo. I was going to ask if we could rename the TdF thread.

    When's your next epic?

Racing on Sunday and it's meant to rain. Went out on an unofficial race on Tuesday (there's a group of about 50 who roll out every lunch time from my work cos we work in some prime riding country) and got my ass handed to me. I thought I'd make an attack as we turned into a straight which gave us a cross-wind. All the High cat races (including a current US National Masters champ) just let me dangle off the front for a few minutes before nonchalantly passing me and spitting me out the back on a climb. Does not bode well...

Have been rained and snowed off every day since my last ride, I feel like I did when it used to rain and I couldn't skate.

    Got the proper buzz!

Each to there own but i only ride in the wet on my short work commute. The only other time i ride in the wet is if i get caught out in it, i certainly don't step out for a ride when it's pissing it down. I'm shit scared of wet roads particularly when cornering and always expect to slip out. I'm always pushing it when i'm out and that combined with the fact i do between 1000-1500km every month of the year i believe it's odds on i'm going to have an accident every once in a while so by not riding in the wet un necessarily i think it helps keep my odds down of coming off... My biggest danger at the min is icy cow shit on back lanes.

I find that I don't mind riding in the rain if it starts when I'm already out but if I draw back the curtains and see rain I'm like 'fuck that'. I have to say that here that doesn't happen very often but it will happen tomorrow - atmospheric river incoming!

I don't want to ride in the rain when I have a leather saddle worth > £200. And because it's not fun. I have a saddle cover in my bag if I get caught in it though.

Same as me Grinners.. If i look out and it's raining then i'm not going out. If for example the forecast says it's going to piss down from from 3pm, then i plan to be home by 3pm and if the rain comes early and i have to do the last hour in the rain then so be it. The biggest ball ache this time of year is snow/hail and ice and planning a route around that. I want to be climbing multiple hills/mountains all the time but the weather says no at the min.. Having to fully degrease a back at least once a week at the moment is a total ball ache n all but it needs doing if you don't want your bike to fail you forty miles from your front door and for the gears etc to stay sharp.
