Fair play to Phelps, could easily get away with avoiding this at his age but he's out there backing up his words with actions, paying to play.

Philosophical question - when does our admiration for a man standing by his principles end? If Phelps had died, would we still say 'fair play' or would we have said that was pretty reckless? Is skateboarding worth dying over?

"he died doing what he loved"
    "what, he loved dying??!??"

If he died of which I sincerly hope he's ok, i'd still think he was a bellend. But, I do respect him in certain ways and would never wish any harm to people I only dislike.
His fall is unlucky, not wreckless. Well, not any more wreckless than skateboarding is in general. I don't know if dying doing something you love is the best thing or a kick in the teeth from something you adored for so long. Dying is unfortunate no matter how it happens.
Lets just hope the cunt is all good.

It's the equivalent of some old drunk in the town being all, "I used to skateboard, gimme a go and I'll show you some moves". And it sucks that this seems to be overshadowing the kid getting knocked off by the cop.

Agree with the second bit but the first bit, come on. Guy has been skating for the vast majority of his life, is constantly on skate trips and around the best skaters in the world. He lives in SF so I'm sure he has bombed that hill and many others countless times, he's just getting involved like anyone else. Seems like he can't win in this situation, either he bombs it or heckles from the side-lines which I'm sure someone would call him out for.

Cop shouldn't have barged but the skater is also a dimwit for trying to bomb a hill past an unimpressed cop.

Whole thing was made worse because of the car being in the way.

Phelps is probably stoked that he slammed like that because everyone is talking about him.

I look forward to the sequence being next month's 'Somethin' Else'. Tenner on it, unless you're still off the gambling. Which I hope you are. So never mind actually.

I bet he's much cooler in real life.
Mate of mine who lives in SF saw him in Zeitgeist (the bar that's next to the SoMa park) the other day and told me he was cool. [/coolstoryfranky]

Good to hear he's apparently alright.
