Nice to see a classy send off on both parts.

He isn't going to Element Footwear though.

You misspelt New Balance in the title.

Just seen that! I think New Balance is quite a good fit.

    Me too.

Some of New Balance's recent shoes look rad.

Westgate is rad and NB seem to have a good approach to skateboarding, more so than Nike, so fair play to him.

This move got me thinking though, when was the last time a pro of equal stature moved from skater owner to skater owned shoe company? Coke/Mo to DC? These days it seems to just be Lakai to Nike or Etnies to Addidas. Never DC to Lakai.

Ben Gore - Lakai to State?

Edit: Not equal stature, but you get the idea...

I think Soy is hooked up by State now so he might have quit adidas for a skater owned company. Not sure this counts as he was never part of the official adidas team, more like just getting shoes from them.
"There are people in skateboarding whose views and backgrounds differ from mine, but I appreciate that they’re a part of it because that’s what keeps skating so diverse and not just some homogenized bullshit. More opinions, more girls, more homosexuality, more global representation." Ryan Lay

Yeah I'm pretty sure Soy switched to State because adidas were slowly edging him out and rightly so, he should've sat out a long time ago

In terms of skater woned shoe company to skater owned shoe company sure some of the Huf team count? Bledsoe from etnies, Plunkett was Nike flow/am, Ramondetta from Circa and sure there are some more

Shit I know I haven't been paying attention recently but Element Footwear is still a thing? I was under the impression they died under a heap of unsold Brent Atchley high tops.

Ryan Lay from Es to Etnies

Walker Ryan from Es to converse flow to DVS.

Has anyone ever moved from Nike/adidas to a non sports brand, Ben Gore is the only one that comes to mind.

    -edit

Neen and Jamie Foy from Nike to Supra & Diamond but I'm not sure either was fully on Nike.

They still make skate shoes by the looks of it but there's no team, not sure how long that lasted. I didn't know Ray Barbee was on Element now.

Yeah I don't think anyone has made the switch from a proper am/pro team position on a big sports brand to a skater owned brand. The only instances have been from Nike/Adidas/Cons flow to another company, they were probably getting a bit of cash from the big brand but no promotion so no doubt made the switch to gain visibility as part of an actual team. I imagine if you're in a well paid team spot on a big brand it is going to take a lot to leave the cushy paycheck and treatment, don't blame them really.

Crikey, I'm just bit late spotting that then!
