Thread: Youtube/Vimeo music rights help

    Default Youtube/Vimeo music rights help

I'm well aware this is not very interesting, but wonder if anyone could enlighten me please.

What's the deal with posting vids/music rights on Youtube and Vimeo these days?

Am I right in thinking that Vimeo still allows vids with any music on and Youtube ends up muting it?

Just wanted to check before uploading everything.......

    Cheers in advance.

youtube doesn't seem to mute stuff much anymore, they'll more likely run ads over your video so the revenue can go to the record label or wherever. one way of checking is upload the song privately and see what happens. no idea about vimeo
    Trust me I'm a stomach

If a record company has a blanket ban on music they’ll mute it, or some countries can have sound, where some can’t because of different copyrights but you’ll be fine 99% of the time. You’ll get an email off YouTube telling you that a copyright claim has been made but you’re not in trouble and as said they’ll run ads over it.
Not sure about Vimeo but a friend just put an edit on it yesterday and it works fine, Palace also use it and I can’t see them paying for the music rights to their video.

Cheers for that everyone, much appreciated.

Haven't uploaded anything for a while, so didn't know it had changed.

I always give myself the Youtube or Vimeo internal debate, so good to know.

youtube is way better indexed in terms of google searches but is more militant about copyright.
a lot of people do the 'i do not own the copyright on this' fair use thing - there's a button somewhere.

vimeo tend to be way mellower with copyrighted music

Even if your video plays on youtube (with ads etc) it may still not play on your mobile device. I've had loads of videos which have been fine on the main player, and it's just said 'this is copyrighted in certain countries, or has ads over it, but once you try and watch it on the mobile there's no joy. Maybe the copyright laws are gnarlier on mobiles?
