Needs to go pro and get on a proper New Balance Euro deal with a fat check ASAP

Imagine the output if he didn't have to work a job...

    Agreed.
I think he might be in a better position to get paid something to skate as a member of Skate Cafe to be honest as it's a company held in higher regard (at least over here) than Politic which is a testament to the hard work Rich Smith and the team put in.

Yeah for sure Skate Café soft goods keep getting better and better every drop and feel like they get some non skate cross over which is where the real money is to be made (not talking Palace levels of crossover or anything like that obv.) I mean seriously Politic has some cool riders but feels like their only sales are to older 'core' dudes who buy it for the support not because they strictly love the product or the designs themselves. Though I feel the moneys really gonna be coming from NB who need to step their game up.

I would imagine so, but not yet.
Dom/Skate Cafe do things 'properly' so I'd imagine that there will be another decent-length video project involving the whole team before anything like that happens.

I have heard via various sources that work on a Cafe video project is already underway.

I live in a small city with none of the trappings of cool 'yoof streetwear' culture and I see non-skaters wearing SkateCafe everywhere so I deffo agree Haven.
Soft goods are the key to unlocking success these days.

remember when companies used to hype up their full videos for months or even years (fully flaired) in the magazines and stuff.

it's cool that we have so much footage at our disposal but big brand full length videos are so rare now and it sucks.

premieres used to be amazing too.

was the last BIG video the vans video and then the plan b one before that?

it's pretty cool that get lesta make full length vids and they aren't even a brand.

Yeah I agree with you on one hand but at the same time there was always so many tricks in those kinda vids spoiled across those years before the vid actually came out through ads, interviews etc. I do like the surprise factor this quick turnaround of footage brings with it but yeah on the whole the long hype chain for those kinda things when I was younger was a phenomenal feeling

They still seem to be a regular occurance in the States:

Vans was the last big one over here I can recall, but maybe if they're not that common here any more that just makes it more special?

Adidas Away Days London premier was obscenely extravagant...

Feels now like premieres have moved away from the big Prince Charles cinema model to the DVDs just being sent out for shops to their own mini prems which I think overall is much sicker as it allows more people the chance to get that premiere experience albeit a slightly smaller one. Beforehand you either had to live in London or pay for an expensive ticket down. Now everyone can just cram into the shop and all watch it together, far more inclusive.

Simple economics these days though hugo.
Videos make no money at all any more (I mean I buy DVDs still but who else on here does? And as far as youngers kids go - they just don't buy them) so the cost of a Prince Charles premiere (like in the Blueprint days) just isn't worth it any more.

There are still prems like you say - last Lakai one was done regionally through shops, this Chris Jones thing at Peckham Plex this week, stuff at Bad Sports in London etc but the days of big costly piss up premieres are over I think.

the adidas Away Days one might well be the very last one of that scale.
Forgot the Volcom/Polar ones - they were old school I guess too

The one where people were chucking bottles at the screen?

That night also produced this - the best photo I have ever taken.

Isle prem at Prince Charles was fucking great. Need more of that shit. Not on the same scale obviously, but we had the Welcome one at the Hyde Park cinema in Leeds and it was great.

I love watching skating on a cinema screen with the surround sound and all your mates drinking beers.
