Default Doug McLaughlan 'Raconteurs' Parts 1 & 2

Afternoon - so this has been a long time in the making for a lot of reasons, not least because of a whole load of personal tragedy in Doug's life whilst we were making it. True to form though - he has stayed upbeat and positive as always.

Part 1 is early life focused, parts 2 and 3 (to drop over the next two weeks) go into detail as re his time as a musician in a band on the edge of super stardom playing gigs in Tokyo, with Part 3 going into the rehabilitation process following him being attacked and having brain surgery.

Hit the link here to see a bunch f archive Leo Sharp photos from the period discussed in part 1
Hope you like it - Doug is the embodiment of why skateboarding is a positive cultural force.

    Part 1 video here.

Mad respect to Dougy, absolute legend and a personal favourite human of mine on and off the board.

Looking forward to watching this. It was always great watching him skate Hyde when I lived in Leeds. He rips.

It's not hyperbolic to say Doug is the most charismatic person I've ever met. I've seen him, at the end of a week long skate trip (where he only took two tee's and one pair of jeans), sidle over to an incredibly snooty looking business woman on a plane and, within 10 minutes, have her putty in his hands. There's nobody like Doug either on or off a board and, even as somebody who has spent a lot of time in his company, I cannot wait to learn more about him in this documentary.

The fact that he's still here, "loving the life he lives," is testament to his spirit. Cyber-knucks of the highest order to Anon, Corpsehands and everyone else involved; super stoked for Doug that he's got something like this for the memories.

Lol at ‘gets me out of the life of shit drink and drugs’ cut to Doug sitting in a rubbish dump drinking a can of tramp juice.

Double lol at ‘get to see the world see new places’ cut to Doug skateboarding under a motorway flyover in the rain.

    not sure if intentional.

I don't know much about him but always really liked his footage.

Oh and Baghead Flats is one of my all time favorite videos.
"There are people in skateboarding whose views and backgrounds differ from mine, but I appreciate that they’re a part of it because that’s what keeps skating so diverse and not just some homogenized bullshit. More opinions, more girls, more homosexuality, more global representation." Ryan Lay

I've said it before but anyone who enters a big cock competition, and wins, has got to be alright in my book.

    Deffo intentional.
That 'rubbish dump' is actually a DIY skate spot that him and the locals built on some wasteground in Shipley.
It's way more picturesque than that DIY sofa might suggest.
Second episode has some more exotic destinations.

As re the drink/drugs thing - a lot of the kids he grew up skating with ended up on drugs a lot harder than Polish lager - not unusual at all where he lives.
