Default Happy 15th Birthday to Beats Workin in N.Devon

it is quite rare these days for bricks and mortar skate shop to make it to their 15th birthday but that is the milestone that has been reached by Glenn at Beats Workin down there in Barnstaple in North Devon. There is a load of different celebrations happening - one being a big party on 11 May that i am DJing (https://www.facebook.com/events/182739785702610/) and another being 'Catch the Hewlett' on 8 May where Tom Hewlett (one of the shop team) gets a head start into town with a fat bag of product and everyone tries to catch him and grab that product - if you catch him you keep it! get your map from the shop (https://www.facebook.com/events/182739785702610/)

things are kicking off with a friends evening on 28 April (https://www.facebook.com/events/285534088648534/) with free beer and pizza and exhibition. The shop has always been a community and family vibe and they do a lot of music events, and fairly recently extended the empire with a proper coffee and juice bar in the next door shop.

i have been long-time, long-distance member of the crew but just wanted to say HAPPY BIRTHDAY and spread the word about the events... www.bwskateshop.com

Into that. It's very olde Devon.

Looking forward to enjoying some mead and watching sword dancing and cheese rolling afterwards.

Might be an idea to get a crew together beforehand, and have people conveniently stationed near the town's best hiding spots.

Went into this shop last year on hols to Appledore. Went to Barnstaple to find the shop where I bought my first board in 1992. Couldn't find it but found Beats working so asked the lad who worked there but he was a bit young to remember/know of that shop. I remember the road it was on and the colour of the sign as clear as day so I went on Google maps when I got back. Turns out I found the street stored in my head in Bideford not Barnstaple and the shop was called Freebird.
Anyway, point I want to make is... the lad with dreads that works in beats workin (irony) was really cool and gave the shop a nice feel. I liked it. Happy Birthday!

The guy that ran that shop looked like Peter Stringfellow.

ha, I don't remember that much but i didn't have much money so got an old board from the bargain bin. A skull skates tubtech 3. Although I do remember thinking that the new boards on the wall looks bonkers, never seen those shapes before. I remember seeing a Mike Carrol wolverine board.

Fair play to them for staying in business. Met the guys last year I think and had a good chat with them, properly decent guys! They definitely know what they're doing down there and hopefully for many more years to come. Cheers!
