Then that's legit!
Ha. I realise all the VX footage will be upscaled...but fuck me, the rest of the DVD would look AMAZING. I'd buy it (again). ...but like I say, it's legit. A proper "new version". Thats what Flip did with their DVD version of Sorry. There was meant to be some extra bits (Tour section/Highlights) and then a little new footage from each of the riders...but when the time came, they had enough for almost full parts from all the non-tranny riders, so the just spent a couple of months finishing it off. ...hence no one complaining when Really Sorry came out. I guess the Girl house learnt their lesson from Yeah, Right? maybe. |

i might be wrong but i heard/read the second release could be in the autumn and in no way would it take that long to compile the outtake footage and some other extras together. i'm figuring a HD disk, the vid in HD, a mountain of extras due to the increased disk capacity and maybe a short promo of only HD new footage to showcase the technology

I'd say it'd be HD only then. You don't want to be upscaling miniDV to HD sizes, even if it's "only" up to 1280×720.

Not that I know how my mind works either. But I think it's true to say that skateboard video companies need to provide a 'perception of quality' if they are going to move out of the free media distribution area and into the paid one.
Which is exactly what everyone else is saying. |

And consciously, why do you watch a skate video? For inspiration? Because you're filling time between skating and the rest of your life? Because you want to see a particular skater in action? For pure enjoyment? Because you want to keep up with skateboarding's latest trends? Because you want to pretend for 30 minutes that you could even get close to skating like Koston/insert pro here? Of course, you probably watch skate videos for a combination of all those reasons and many more that I've missed. But then these motivations for watching a skate video also play a role in you buying a particular skate video, along with wanting to support a particular company. And to then say, oh but these are identical for the music industry is simplifying the argument to a ridiculous degree. Because the purchasing process, the reward and the self-actualisation process can all surely be applied to numerous other luxury goods which we don't by any means need, but buy anyway because of how they make us feel and the story which we ourselves place upon them to make them suit our own lifestyle ideals. edit: And I haven't even mentioned on the difference between active and passive actions...

i listen to music and watch skate videos for pretty much the same reasons
one makes me wanna skate , the other makes me wanna dance, sing, tap my foot , whistle, bob my head..... stop trying to provide a treatise on the difference , they're both products designed to entertain and / or inspire active / passive, bah. and they're both passive because you're not doing anything other than just watching / listening

in fact music is probably less passive, as you can sing along
unless you watch skate vids whilst doing kickflips on the carpet

Because active and passive are all to do with physical actions and not mental activity...
Anyway, fuck it, you're oversimplifying it but let's say you're right, since it is, broadly speaking, a pointless argument. What I'm more interested in is whether you think people should download skate videos or not?

Forget 'should'.
If there's no added value in purchasing, consumers will opt for the free download. Same as the music industry. You add value by creating a perception of quality - 'We worked hard to make this for you' = motivated consumers. If you make everyone think you're throwing the stuff out there as advertising, it'll get nowhere. Remember when Dwindle used to exploit the captive market they had for skate vids? Rodney vs. Daewon 2 was almost all ads for other companies. Never again, it reduces the perceived quality of the product. |

Skate videos in general these days are bone. When they came out years ago it was such a momentus occasion, now they get given away free, no wonder their perceived value has gone to shit.

you've also gotta factor in the fact that you're old, jaded and have seen it all before (pretty much)
try comparing your first tug over the under wear section of the catalogue and knocking one out over some fierce dwarf-buggering pr0n just to get some sleep no contest
